It's nice to lend a hand
At DevelopIntelligence, helping people is at the core of who we are and what we do. We help people every day to learn new technologies, new languages, and new programming processes.
But we believe helping people should extend beyond our classrooms. We believe that helping others is part of what makes the world a better place. Below are a few groups we've supported through the giving of our time, money, and resources.
Centaurus High School, Boulder Valley School District
Centaurus High School is a college-preparatory high school in the Boulder Valley School District, with an award-winning Engineering Academy and International Baccalaureate Diploma program.
In 2015, DevelopIntelligence donated funds to help Centaurus High School's Chromebook Initiative. This initiative will ensure all incoming freshmen students receive a Chromebook that they will use throughout their four years at Centaurus High School, to enhance their learning. Upon graduation from Centaurus, students have the option of keeping the Chromebook.
GoCode Colorado is a Colorado state-wide apps challenge designed to make public data more accessible and user-friendly. Teams of developers and entrepreneurs across the state compete to solve business problems and grow our economy, by building apps that will help Colorado companies thrive.
In 2014, DevelopIntelligence provided both in-kind and financial support to help make GoCode Colorado's inaugural year a rousing success. Our participation in the GoCode Colorado initiative continued into 2015, with our team taking a more active role in promoting GoCode Colorado to local developer groups, offering support and mentoring during preliminary events, and cheering teams on during the final event.
2016 was another succesful year for our partnership with our in-house Python instructor Dave Wade-Stein getting excellent reviews from students who took his introduction to Python half-day course. Here's what one student said of the course:
"Last year I had the opportunity to dabble with Python at a DevelopIntelligence workshop. I've always been curious about Python, just never had the opportunity to sit down with it in an organized, effective, and focused way. What I really dug about the workshop is that the instructor was very skilled in balancing the class to make it appealing to both the inexperienced and experienced which is always hard when people in the workshop are at such different levels of knowledge. The agenda was well organized and had the right balance of intro/background, hands on exercises, syntax, constructs, tooling, and examples of real world use cases. Although it's unrealistic to learn a language from scratch in half a day I feel that the time was well spent. I do have over a decade of knowledge in app development with other languages and one thing that really impressed me was the instructor's skill at answering my questions without alienating others that came from less experienced backgrounds. This was a good taste of what DevelopIntelligence can offer and taking a full class with them is something I would definitely recommend."
We're very excited for the upcoming 2017 GoCode challenge!
