XML Programming with Java

Course Summary

The XML Programming with Java training course is designed to demonstrate the foundational knowledge required to create applications that work with Extensible Markup Language (XML).

The course begins by exploring many of the common aspects of working with XML, from parsing to transformations and bindings. Next, it examines how to use both XML Path Language (XPath) and Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT) through the Java Application Programming Interface (API) for XML Processing (JAXP) interfaces. The course concludes by describing how to simplify XML processing through Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB).

Prerequisites: This course assumes students are already familiar with XML.

Purpose
Learn how to design Java applications that read, manipulate, and write Extensible Markup Language (XML).

Productivity Objectives
  • Interpret Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and Schemas
  • Differentiate Java API for XML Processing (JAXP) from Simple Application Programming Interface for XML (SAX) and Document Object Model (DOM)
  • Predict when to use Java Application Programming Interface (API) for JAXP, SAX, and DOM
  • Associate how to apply XML/Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSLT) transformations

What You'll Learn:

In the XML Programming with Java training course, you'll learn:
  • Overview of XML
  • Java API for XML Processing (JAXP)
  • Simple API for XML Processing (SAX)
  • The Document Object Model (DOM)
  • Manipulating XML Using DOM
  • Using JAXP for XML/XSL Transformations
  • Working with XPath
  • Creating and Using Templates
  • Java API for XML Binding (JAXB)
“I appreciated the instructor's technique of writing live code examples rather than using fixed slide decks to present the material.”
